Build P&L, Balance Sheet, and Ledger are now equipped with the power of Excel. With the introduction of cell equations, you can add cells from any column or row, opening a world of possibilities when customizing your Build reports. To quote one of Syft's team members, Laurika Steenekamp, "Everything that you've ever wished Syft's Build P&L cells could do can now be done."
Let's get into the nuts and bolts of this feature.
What's new π§
With cell equations in Build reports, you can add cells from any column and row together, making your reports even more flexible.
How does it work? π
To add a cell equation, do the following:
Select a cell in which you want to build out the equation
An equation builder pop-up will appear
Select a cell to use in your new equation column
Insert the particular cells you would like as well as the relevant mathematical symbols to establish the equation, just as you would do in Excel.
It's that easy!
Note π: Cells in a cell equation column cannot be referenced in other equations within the same cell column. Similarly, cells in the cell equation column cannot reference cells in other cell equation columns.
Why we love this feature π
Cell equations add another level of customizability to our Build reports, empowering you to easily create equations that reference other cells. Wondering how you could use this feature? Let me give you an example.
Say you run a patisserie and would like to look at your cupcake sales for the last month as a percentage of total sales, but you realize that you would also like to consider your admin costs as a percentage of total sales. You can create both equations within your Build report using cell equations referencing your cupcake sales, admin costs, and total sales. Therefore, you can easily establish just how popular your cupcakes are - i.e., what percentage of sales they account for - and see how expensive your admin costs are and whether you may need to reduce these.
Closing thoughts π
Thanks to this exciting development, you really can create the reports of your dreams in Build P&L, BS, and Ledgers. Simply create a cell equation column and get going. The rest is just a few clicks away.
