It's been a busy and exciting week at Syft Analytics following the announcement of our acquisition by Xero. However, as always, we have continued to work on feature improvements. Next, we'd like to introduce enhancements to our report builder designed to make your reporting process smoother. Let's take a look at what's changed.

What's new? 🧐

We've redesigned the way you build and manage reports. The aim is to make it easier to rename reports within your report pack, navigate between templates you've previously used or created, and determine what is causing errors in your report downloads. We've also added functionality to improve the categorization of reports. Let's take a look at some highlights.

Renaming reports made simple

There's a new and improved way to rename reports you include within a pack. So, say, for example, you are adding a P&L to your report pack. When you select this report to add it, you'll see that there's a pencil icon next to the "Add to template" button. If you click on the pencil icon, a cursor will appear next to the title "Profit and Loss" and you can then change it to "Income Statement" or whatever your preferred title is for the report in question. Then, if you click out of the name section, Syft will save the new name. It's as easy as that!

Reports are color-coded according to the sidebar

Your reports are now color-coordinated based on the sidebar icon. This helps you more easily determine which sections of Syft are being used in your reports.

Note πŸ“: This does not apply to reports you've made previously; it only applies to those in the future.

Narrow in on the cause of download errors

We've enhanced error tracking in report generation to save you time when your reports fail to download as they should. Now, when you try to download a report and it fails, Syft will let you know which report caused the issue so you know what to fix to get your download working.

Group reports by type or tag

You can now group your reports by type within the report table. This makes it easier to find the specific report you are looking for when you enter the Reports section on Syft. Previously, we allowed you to group reports according to the person who created them or their frequency. While you can still do this, we've added the ability to group them according to functionality.

In addition, we've reintroduced tags to reports so that you can easily sort your reports according to other criteria. You'll see that there are certain default tags to get started with, such as "Operational" and "Performance." However, you can also create your own custom tags.

Note πŸ“: Tags created in the Report table won't pull through to other areas of Syft, and only one tag can be assigned per report template.

Reposition reports with ease

You can drag and drop reports to reposition them in reports when using the ungrouped view. However, if you have grouped reports together, drag-and-drop functionality will be disabled.

See which templates have been used as Live Views or Schedules

Forgotten which templates you've used for Live Views or Scheduled Reports? No worries. If you have any Live Views or Scheduled Reports that use a specific report template, these will be highlighted in the template's section in the Reports table so you can easily find the answer to that question at a glance.

Closing thoughts πŸ’

From renaming reports to categorizing them and easily identifying errors preventing them from downloading, these latest updates are aimed at ensuring that your reporting process is seamless from start to finish. And this is just the start! Keep your eyes peeled for more updates coming to Reports soon.
