While so much of your accounting data pulls through to Syft, there will inevitably be times when you will need to edit certain numbers in your reports, whether this be to facilitate management accounting needs or consolidated journals. Syft's manual journal and account posting allows you to do just that. And now, it's easier than ever before to use this functionality - or switch it off to prevent others from creating manual postings that will impact your reports. Let's see how this works.
Enable or disable manual account creation β
To turn on the option to create a manual account on Syft, go to Layouts > Accounts and toggle on "Enable Syft accounts." When you toggle this on, the toggle button will turn green. To add a new account, click "Add accounts".
Pro tip π‘: This is useful for creating adjustments to your accounts for management accounting purposes or for creating accounts specific to consolidations on Syft, such as goodwill.
The ability to toggle off the creation of manual accounts also enables you to control who is creating accounts on your Syft account. Remember, you can also check who has access to this feature by visiting the Roles section of your account settings.
Enable or disable manual journal creation β
To turn on the option to create a manual journal on Syft, go to Layouts > Journals and toggle on "Enable Syft journals." When you toggle this on, the toggle button will turn green. You can then click the "Add journal" button to add a new manual journal.
Pro tip π‘: This is a handy functionality as it empowers you to post a transaction entry into the transaction list that powers around 90% of Syft's features.
As with accounts, you can toggle off the ability to create manual journals so that no one in your organization will be able to post journals. You'll notice that if this is toggled off, any journals that have been created will be grayed out.
Closing thoughts π
Whether you're creating management accounts or consolidated reports, the ability to add new accounts and journal entries directly in Syft is an invaluable tool. With the latest updates to Syft, it's never been so simple to create these manual postings - or prevent others from creating them.
