While multi-factor authentication (MFA) has been available on Syft for a long time, it will now be enforced for all users. If you haven't already enabled it on your account, you'll have until mid-October to do so; otherwise, it will be automatically applied to your account. Read on to find out why we are enforcing this feature.
What is MFA?
MFA is an authentication method that requires you to provide 2 or more verification factors to gain access to your account. Instead of just using your email and password, you will be prompted to supply Syft with a code from your Authenticator app as well.
Why is MFA important?
MFA is important because it adds an extra barrier in front of your account, making it far more difficult for unauthorized users to access your information. Authenticator apps give you randomized codes on your mobile device that change every 30 seconds. This means that hacking into your account becomes a real mission.
Did you know that up to 80% of data breaches could be prevented by activating MFA?
How to set up MFA
To set up MFA, navigate to "Settings", "My account" and then "Preferences". On the Preferences tab toggle "User security" on. After toggling two-factor authentication (2FA) on, you will need to sign out and back into your Syft account for it to take effect.
Once you sign in again, there are three steps left for you to complete:
Install an authenticator app (either Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, or Authy)
Connect your app to Syft by scanning the barcode
Input your unique password from the authenticator app

The bottom line
We are implementing mandatory MFA across Syft to ensure the highest level of protection for all users' data. Safeguarding your information is our top priority, and this additional layer of security reinforces our commitment to keeping your data safe. So, if you haven't done so already, please turn on MFA for your Syft account.
